At our company we have a lot of forklift traffic that has to share the same aisles as our pedestrians. We limit the speed of our lifts to 3 mph.  I am wanting to find out what requirements for operators other companies use.  We currently require operators to have 20/20 distant vision with or without correction. and we require score of 5/9 for depth perception. that is = to 50 degrees of arc. We also require a valid state driver license with on DUI in the past year, and no restriction for interlock for DUI.  Some are saying that is to strict, but my concern is not with being compliant, it is with making sure my employees are safe. Please share what your company rules are regarding this. Thanks

Hi Rick,

Here is a great article about forklift safety -

I don't think your DUI standards are too strict at all. I have worked for a company that if you have a DUI on your record they will not hire you to drive any motorized vehicle.

Thanks,

Tony

Safety Sign Colors and International Standards

Colors make a difference to our environment. They help us analyze the surroundings and distinguish between objects. We recognize plants as green and the sky as blue, whereas a frog, for example, can be either green or blue. Deviant colors, in this case blue, warns us about poisonousness. If we detect unusual colors in our food, for example, we associate them with rottenness, which then activates a warning in our mind “Don’t eat!” Colors cause diverse feelings and opinions, and even distinct…See More
