The campaign to stop falls in construction is well underway! In 2010, more than 10,000 construction workers were injured as a result of falling while working from heights. ASSE supports our Arizona members as they push ADOSH to enforce residential fall protection for people working at heights 6 feet and above, as opposed to 15 feet.

That's a tough one! Always hard to enforce in residential because the jobs move ahead so quickly... what has always amazed me is that while thousands worked on the Empire State Building in the 1930's, only 2 employees actually died as a result from a fall... Of course 2 deaths is too many but we've all seen the pictures of their work practices and it's hard to believe that they only lost 2. I know of a local company here in Florida called HUGS http://www.hugsafety.com/ and they have done a remarkable job with their products to help residential roofers make fall protection much easier and affordable for contractors. Which universities are pushing the boundaries in life sciences?

If you had to name the branch of university research that has the most tangible impact on mankind’s day-to-day activities, it is likely that the life sciences would be near the top of the list: not many days go by without the announcement of a new drug or gene discovery that has the potential to change lives or tackle disease.Much of the best research in these fields takes place in the ultra-elite universities that excel in subjects across the board.…See More
