Recently, while scrolling through my Twitter, I came across this tweet that made me stop and think. There are workplace safety laws that make first-aid kits and other medical necessities compulsory in every organization. But, what about mental health? Do we have laws that cater to mentally ill workers?
We do. We have the American Disabilities Act. Mental Illness is a disability and protects employees from discrimination when the employ can show that they qualify. Which then brings up another issue, the stigma of being known to have a mental illness. An organization that works to help individuals with mental illness is NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
