Several of THR's hospitals are looking at purchasing new patient lifts, slings and patient raisers. We're looking at Arjos and Hoyers. What has been your experience with these? What type do you prefer?
We use Arjo and have had good experience. I think what's important is to ensure that whatever model you consider is compatible with your current beds and stretchers. We had a problem where new stretchers were purchased without checking to make sure that the floor lifts could fit underneath them. They couldn't! The other thing we have found a challenge is ensuring that slings are inspected regularly and taken out of service when they shows signs of wear.
Thanks for the information. With so many hospitals in our system, it's been a challenge to make everyone aware that the departments can't just order whatever they want without regard to interactions with other equipment, staff, etc.
You bring up an interesting comment about the slings and routine inspections. Thanks.
We have Arjos here. You should look into a good PMI program as you want to make sure you can get a replacment part "most Ricky Tic". They have a plan that will set your in house shop up with the usual replacement parts that fail. Also having a few spare lifts to use when one goes down will help you be successful.
