April is: “National Distracted Driving Awareness Month"

Comment by STEPHEN D. AMBERS, RSO

“National Distracted Driving Awareness Month also is the perfect opportunity for businesses to implement cell phone policies to protect employees. When businesses allow employees to conduct business on cell phones while driving, they are putting their employees at a 4 times greater risk of a crash,” said Janet Froetscher, NSC president and CEO. “NSC provides many resources, including a free Cell Phone Policy Kit, to help businesses protect… Continue

(XXX-Cell-Phone) I Don't Answer Cell Phone Calls or Text Messages When I'm Driving!

I recently purchased the BlackBerry - Storm II - Smart Phone. After learning about Distracted Driving from Jay Anderson, Executive Director of Stay Alive....Just Drive, I began to teach the City of Fort Myers employees about Distracted Driving and the possible consequences.

During one of the training sessions, someone asked me if I have ever talked on the cell phone while driving. I said, of course I have, but I usually pull over in a safe spot and continue the conversation. It was… Continue

"There Should Be A Law Against That."

I'm new at this so, I can't say that I've looked at enough of the messages, blogs and so on to have seen my topic yet. However, I would like to comment on Commuting to and from Work. I'm sure you all have heard the phrase, "there should be a law against that." We allow children and adults to stand on the sidewalk at busy intersections, with signs begging your attention at a time and place that is proven to be the leading cause of motor vehicle accidents. "Intersections" This bewilders me!

Thanks for your nice response, Stephen. I have written quite a few blogs on texting and driving, and recently, about texting and walking! It's amazing how many accidents pedestrians have by paying more attention to their cellphones than where they are going! I look forward to learning more through your information and others on this site!
