Essential safety equipment for working at heights

There are quite a few things you will need as far as safety equipment if you plan to be working at heights. As you start your job, ensure that you are trained in all usage of equipment, and that you are given the proper gear. Here are some essentials for working at heights.

1. Horizontal lifelines

Horizontal lifelines, or cable system testing, is the best way to ensure safety while you are working at heights, such as on rooftops. These systems meet all regulations, and can be designed to fit the exact job you are doing.

2. Hardhats.

These should be worn at all building sites, but are especially important when working at heights should there be any risk of a fall. This will protect your head from injury.

3. A tool belt.

This is ideal for when you need your hands free for climbing up and down, but will still need a lot of tools on hand. It's never a good idea to try to climb while you are holding tools in your hands.

4. Proper work boots.

These are important both to protect your feet from injury while on the job, as well as to ensure enough grip to be safe while climbing up and down the safety line testing, ladders, etc.

5. Mobile man anchors.

These are ideal height safety units where it's not considered viable to add guardrail.

If you have not been provided with some of these safety essentials, but you feel you require them for work safety, discuss this with your boss right away.
