Fire Safety Procedures and Regulations in the Workplace

Fire safety measurements and guidelines at the workplace:
Fire at the workplace is the most devastating hazard for both the public and workers. As it leads to lite to serious injuries or sometimes even fatalities along with the great loss in property. So fire safety is quite important and makes sure that you and your co-workers are more familiar with fire safety measurements and procedures. In case the fire safety procedures are not clear and treated carelessly, do read the following tips and procedures to enhance fire safety procedure at the workplace.

Fundamental fire safety at the workplace:

  • Know where the fire extinguishers are placed at your workplace; also you should be aware of where does the nearest extinguishers are located every time.
  • Do know all the emergency exits
  • Have knowledge about alarm signals in order to react immediately at emergency situation

In case of the fire breaks:

  • Activate nearest fire alarm and alert other co-workers within the workplace/shout clearly that the fire has break / utilize some other guidelines which has been set by your organization
  • Make use of the near exit point to evacuate from workplace
  • Utilize fire extinguisher to put off the fire and be aware and careful while indulging in this process, and don’t do this in case you or someone may face the risk

During an emergency when you are indulged in the evacuation at the worksite:

  • Stay quiet and evacuate the workplace quickly when you hear the fire alert.
  • If you pass through the escape route, close it (don't ever lock) so that you can cut the fire and smoke spreading to next rooms.
  • Assemble in the assembly point and make alert your senior managers that you are safe from fire and you are outside the building.
  • Do comply with your organization’s guidelines.

A safe workplace is critical and make sure that you hold proper safety guidelines and policies for critical things like working in height, first aid and confined space etc.

A work environment assessment for fire safety are supposed to be done when the site is established or in case the building is undergoing any changes, the safety policies should be enacted; the main thing is every fire extinguishers should be checked and inspected in regular interval of time.
