It is very hazardous for pregnant women to be exposed to chemical factors while working. Let's take a look at some of the hazards that chemical exposure has for a pregnant woman and ways they can try to avoid it.

Exposures to some chemical hazards have results that can affect the fertility of the parents, and cause problems for the fetus during pregnancy. Anyone who works in a field that deals with reproductive toxins, and plans on or is already carrying a child needs to consult both a doctor and their HR at their employment. It is appropriate to consider this to get options that eliminate exposure risks.

How to keep pregnant workers safe?

The safety and human resource department can address the situation and work with the exposed individual to adjust work and minimize risk. The employee's physician can also discuss the possible risks of exposure, as they are important not only to the mother but also the baby.

Changes in a woman's overall physical status can alter the risk of sickness or damage when exposed to workplace hazards. Many women are able take measures or certain steps to prevent chemical exposure risks at work.

Looking after the unborn child

What may be safe for you may not be safe for your unborn child. Some may be able to safely do their job during pregnancy while sometimes pregnancy can affect a worker's safety. If you are pregnant, it may be a good idea to consider that changes in your metabolism augment how quickly you absorb chemicals. The equipment you use such as a lab coat or respirator may not fit properly. A fetus may be more susceptible to chemicals because of their rapid growth and development, especially in the first trimester of pregnancy

The makeup of today's workforce have continued to change drastically over the years. Women comprise almost half of the workforce and are employed in many occupations, including those that can expose them to strenuous physical exertion, chemical hazards, or ionizing radiation.

Sometimes primary care physicians are prompted to assess the working environment during pregnancy. Care physicians who examine pregnant patients who work in environments that may pose risks should be aware of and understand the process of evaluation for a reproductive risk.

Workforce hazards may include solvents, metals, pesticides, or more. Some alterations to a pregnant employee may possibly include hormone levels, menstrual disorders, premature menopause and ovarian dysfunction. Toxin exposure can cause cell damage to the egg and maternal membrane function. Toxic exposure can also cause preterm birth or birth defects.

The importance of safety and health programs

Safety and health programs imply the assessment of pregnant women and breastfeeding women. It may be necessary to alter conditions of work or find suitable alternate work. If this is not possible, the employee should be allowed a leave of absence within limits of legislation. There are guidelines in place for the valuation of agents that pose a risk and processes on what measures are to be or can be taken to prevent the pregnant worker from exposure.

Useful and helpful information on hazardous chemicals is found at any worksite on required safety data sheets. Manufacturers may also send technical documents or other material. Safety data sheets are created to provide necessary information on the more risky aspects of the substance, including the dangers that it poses to a person's health as well as guidance protection. If you have concerns about potentially harmful agents It is recommended that you seek expert advice as to how to avoid risks. Directives are always available to help assess exposure to hazardous materials in a work environment, safe handling procedures and information on developing workplace safety instructions for using the proper equipment to help reduce the risk of exposure.

It is in the best interest of the pregnant employee to avoid such working condition as taking risk is not advisable. Expecting mothers exposed to harmful toxins may pose serious  threat to the health of new born .
