How can we keep confined space hazards top of mind in the workplace? There is no doubt that confined spaces are both a common occurance at a job site, and one where the potential for safety issues to develop are ripe. Do people understand what they need to do to ensure injury doesn’t happen?
One of the largest challenges when dealing with confined spaces is the infrequency of the situation--a worker may spend a full-day within the confined space and then not work again in this environment for several weeks or months; in other words, these are temporary, and hazardous, work sites.
What safety approaches do you recommend to ensure worker safety awareness in confined spaces? Do the safety standards in-place need to be adjusted? Your feedback is welcome.
