The erection of scaffold is a skilled task, which should only be carried out by trained and competent persons. No one must alter or modify the ‘Green Tagged’ scaffold other than the personnel qualified from Scaffold Contractor.
If guard-rails are required to be temporarily removed to facilitate loading / off-loading on the scaffold, workers must use the full body harness and should only be under the strict supervision of a knowledgeable and experienced Foreman / Charge-hands.
When using scaffolds, be aware of unauthorized alterations by other people, which may have left dangerous gaps in the decking, missing toe-boards, guard rails, etc. Do simple visual checks on the scaffold yourself, as you carry out your job.
Don’t ignore warning signs – if a section of scaffold is blocked-off, treat it as unsafe for use.
Don’t overload scaffolds. Find out what load the scaffold was designed and erected for and don’t exceed these loads.
Don’t work on scaffolding platform with RED Scaff-Tag.
Always use a safe means of access ladder and should never climb-up on the scaffold platform by any other means.
A ladder or trestle must never be placed on top of the platform to extend the height of the tower.
Mobile platform must be clear of persons and materials before being moved.
The height to least base ratio of mobile platform should be not greater than 3:1. Out riggers / stabilizers should be used to increase the effective base size.
