Definition of a risk assessment:

A risk assessment is a fundamental element of health and safety management. The main objective is to determine the various measures to comply with statutory duty which comes under the act 1974 of health and safety at work and the regulations are to reduce the level of incidents and accidents at workplace.

Why do a risk assessment?

The risk assessment will protect the workers as well as the business from in complying with the law.

An individual should attend risk assessment training from an organization because it will give the assurance of that individual is much competent within the industry and will gain abilities like identification of hazard,  ability to categorize and evaluate the risks. These abilities allow suitable and sufficient risk assessment which is conducted within the organization.

How to do a risk assessment

For conducting risk assessment there are no fixed rules but there exist a few general principles which are to be followed.

The five steps to risk assessment should be followed to ensure that the risk assessment is carried out properly

  1. Identify the hazards
  2. Decide who may get harm and how
  3. Evaluate various risk and decide on the control measures
  4. Record the significant findings
  5. Review the assessment and update if needed

 Explanations:

  1. Identify the hazards: the important aspects of risk assessment are identifying the potential hazards in your workplace, accurately.
  2. Decide who may get harm and how: For every hazard, one should be clear about who may get harm. It helps in identifying the best ways to control the risk.
  3. Evaluate various risks and decide on the control measures: then have to decide on how the harm may occur.
  4. Record the significant findings: make a record of the significant findings.
  5. Review the assessment and update if needed: Risk Assessments are supposed to be regularly revisited in order to ensure change is managed and controlled.
