What is the risk of a low Kst

We have tested our needle coke dust and the highest test was a Kst of 30 bar.m/s and was not ignitable in the MIE test (MIE > 4607 mJ). We have done a pretty extensive inspection of the site and found places that we need to improve our housekeeping. Looking at the Kst of other material, needle coke dust is low on the scale. My questions are:1) Is there any industry stds that give guidance on a hazard analysis based on the material's Kst?2) Is it reasonable to look at normal process conditions…See More

Placement of Safety Showers

What sources are out there about the placement of safety showers?I am most concerned about thermal hazards rather than chemical. We have a loading station where employees will be transfering 180 degree F oil. I am forcing the engineering department to add safety showers, but a little documentation goes a long way.See More

Collaboration is important for getting things done, if handled properly

Collaboration is an essential part of our lives and careers. It is a great means to getting things done when it is not possible for us to carry out all our work ourselves. What did you do when you built your house? Did you carry out all the work related to construction, such as painting, plumbing or electrification yourself? Didn’t…See More

Putting the MS Excel VBA to optimal use

Visual BASIC for Applications (VBA) is the programming language built into MS Excel and other MS programs. It is a macro, which, as we know, is a recording of a series of tasks. At a simple level, it can be thought of as a smaller version of programing in that once certain tasks are assigned to it, it carries them out.The main function of a macro is to work within a program such as MS Excel and automate tasks that need to be performed over and…See More
